What is the HCG Diet?

The HCG Diet was developed by a physician named Dr. Simeons back in the 1950's. Dr. Simeons discovered when his patients took a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) and followed a very specific low-calorie diet, they would lose abnormal fat at a very fast rate.

The average weight loss on the HCG Diet is 20-30 pounds per 'round' of the HCG Diet. A round of the HCG Diet lasts an average of 23-40 days, plus a 6 week 'maintenance' period.

The human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is taken in a form of sublingual drops that are placed under your tongue 3 times a day. The approximate cost of HCG drops is about $100.00 per round depending on the length of your round.

HCG Gorge Days: Last 2 days

Start taking the HCG drops 3 times per day. Eat high-fat foods all day to replenish your fat reserves in order to prepare your body for the upcoming weight loss. This seems counter to losing weight, but it is necessary because it takes a couple of days for the HCG to start causing your abnormal fat reserves to be released into your bloodstream to be burned as calories. If you don't gorge properly, you will be very hungry the first week on the diet.

HCG VLCD Days: Last 21-38 days

Continue taking the HCG drops 3 times per day. You follow this part of the diet until Day 23 (minimum) until Day 40 (maximum). This is the ‘weight-loss’ phase. Most participants lose ½ - 1 pound per day (average weight loss is 3 pounds per week). Follow the HCG Menu below:

Breakfast: Coffee or Tea. You are allowed to sweeten with stevia or saccharin and you may use 1 tablespoon of milk per day.

Lunch: You are allowed 4 items from the options below per day for lunch:

1.) Meat: 100 grams of veal, beef, chicken breast, fresh white fish, lobster, crab, or shrimp.

2.) Vegetable: Spinach, chard, chicory, beet-greens, green salad, tomatoes, celery, fennel, onions, red radishes, cucumbers, asparagus, or cabbage.

3.) ‘Carb’: 1 grissini breadstick, 1 melba toast, or 2 melba snacks.

4.) Fruit: Apple, orange, 5-6 strawberries, or ½ grapefruit

Dinner: Same as Lunch

Exit Days: Last 72 hours

Stop taking the HCG drops, but continue the above VLCD Diet for 3 days in order for the HCG drops to exit your system.

Maintenance: Last 6 weeks

At this point in the HCG Diet you are going to be eating in a more ‘normal’ fashion, such as larger quantities and varieties of meats, veggies, fruits, nuts, beans, etc. For the 1st 3 weeks of HCG maintenance you will avoid ‘sugars’ and ‘starches’.

For the 2nd 3 weeks of HCG maintenance you will slowly add in more ‘sugars’ and ‘starches’ in order to stabilize your weight loss. Once these 6 weeks of HCG Maintenance are done, you can choose to do another round of HCG if you still have more weight to lose.
