Instant Natural Relief for Leg Cramps, a Common Side Effect of the HCG Diet
It’d been a long day; I was lying in bed enjoying a most restful sleep when suddenly my calf muscles cramped relentlessly, and I was jolted awake by the pain. For most of my life, when this happened, I would first try to massage the muscle to get it to relax. This almost never worked but at least I didn’t have to get up out of bed to try it. Next, I would get up, flexing my foot and stretching my calf muscles, and try to walk it out. This worked occasionally but when it didn’t, I would head to the medicine cabinet for aspirin or ibuprofen and wait for 15 to 20 minutes for that to kick in.
About six months ago, one of our DIY HCG Drops Diet customers, a flight attendant by trade, told me about a quick, easy and inexpensive remedy for leg cramps…1-2 teaspoons of yellow mustard! She always made a habit of keeping a mustard packet in her purse in case she’d get a cramp. (If you think yellow mustard is totally repulsive, have a tablespoon of pickle juice instead as this will work equally as well, but it’s not as easy to store in your purse.)
I had never heard this but, having suffered with leg cramps for years, was excited to give it a try. A couple of weeks later, I got the chance and to my surprise it actually worked! I squirted 1-2 teaspoons of mustard onto a spoon and gulped it down. A minute or two later, my muscles relaxed, and the pain was gone! I couldn’t believe it and had to find out why, calling on Google to shed some light. I found out that two neurobiologists, Rod MacKinnon, MD, and Bruce Bean, PhD, discovered that muscle cramps can be triggered by misfiring nerves. They found that strong flavors can trigger nerves in the mouth, throat and stomach, and this neuronal stimulation may have the ability to overwhelm the naughty nerves causing muscle cramps.
For those people on the HCG Diet Protocol, leg cramps are a common side effect. DIY Diet Drops contain a cell salt mixture (calcium, potassium, magnesium, sodium, iron, and silica) in the formula to ward off these annoying cramps but if you still get them, let plain yellow mustard* or dill pickle juice** come to the rescue.
*Plain Yellow Mustard is allowed on the HCG Diet while Honey Dijon Mustard is not.
**Dill Pickle Juice is allowed while Sweet or other pickle juice is not since it would most likely contain sugar.
