HCG Side Effects Explained: Bad Mood on HCG

One side effect that most people experience at some point on any diet, including the HCG Diet, is being in a bad mood or getting a little cranky — especially if we don't see the scale move every day. We have found that this can happen for a few reasons:

  1. Food Withdrawals: Before the HCG Diet, your daily food intake was probably full of processed, higher sugar, carby foods that are called 'comfort foods' for a reason. It’s totally understandable that you’d be in a bad mood when you’re depriving your brain of the feel-good endorphin and serotonin boost it’s used to from high-fat, high-salt, high-sugar, high-carb foods. This usually goes away after the initial detox time of about  5-7 days.  As time goes on, you should notice less cravings and less withdrawal side effects as the previous 'bad' foods you were eating fully exit your system.
  2. Stress: Everyone handles stress differently, and many people find sticking to the low calorie diet, or any specific structure, somewhat stressful. Stress can cause some people to get a little grumpy.
  3. Hormones: HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is a natural pregnancy hormone and as such, it may negatively affect your mood. With both men and women, hormones can have a positive or negative impact, and awareness is key to not allowing your mood to have much of an effect unless it is a positive one.

Even if you do find yourself snapping at your spouse or yelling at your cat,  it’s generally short-lived. The best way to get over a bad mood on HCG is to kill it with awareness. If you recognize how you feel and that you’re feeling that way because of the diet and not because of anything your spouse or your cat did, you’ll be able to get over it and move on quickly.  Hopefully, tomorrow will bring a new, lower weight and your mood will soar once again.

Keep in mind that the time on the HCG Diet is very temporary. You're only on the low calorie phase of the HCG Diet for around 30 days, so try to put on your happy pants and enjoy the fast weight loss.

Did you have any moodiness while on the VLCD/Phase 2 of the HCG Diet? What did you do to deal with it?
